6 Months of Jackson Nicholas

Our sweet boy was 6 months old on December 1st and we rang in his birthday at Blank Children's Hospital. 

He gave us a big scare on November 29th! He had been fighting a cold for a few days and began struggling with breathing. After an ambulance ride to our in-town hospital, and another ambulance ride to Blank Children's Hospital he was in much better shape, but we stayed overnight to watch his oxygen. It has been a scary few days, and I think it will be weeks before I sleep soundly at night again. We are praising God for answered prayers of health, and praying it continues for the ENTIRE family. 

Here's a more fun update about Jack and what's new with him.  

Jackson likes:

  • Loves to giggle at daddy and big brother
  • Being in the thick of the action; where his people are, that's where he wants to be. 
  • Milky 
  • Jack loves to be read to.

Jackson dislikes:

  • Jack does not like when I walk past him and don't pick him up. He kicks his legs, and we joke that it's like he's saying "uhh...hello?! Don't you see me?!"
  • At the moment, solids. He is not a huge fan! 

Eating:

  • This month we tried oatmeal cereal, avocadoes, sweet potatoes, apples and bananas, and Jack is NOT a fan. He pushes them out of his mouth and gags. With all of his recent health complications our pediatrician advised us to put solids on hold for a bit, and I don't think that will hurt Jack's feelings at all. 😉

Sleeping: 

  • This was the month that Jack really consolidated naps and is taking 2-3 longer naps a day. Hooray!

Activities:

  • Jack would really love to be able to crawl but just hasn't quite figured it out. He rolls all over the place trying to be in the action, and can propel himself in a circle. Yesterday he got up on all fours for about a half a second.
  • He is working on sitting up, but is still a bit wobbly! 
  • There aren't any signs of teeth coming in quite yet. 
  • He loves to play Pat-a-Cake, be sung to, and be entertained by his big brother. 😊
  • Jack really discovered his feet this month. He loves to pull and tug on them. 
We are hoping (and praying!) that this next month of his is a little less eventful and full of good health! We can't wait to celebrate his first Christmas. Here are some of my favorite pictures from the last month: 









This was taken in the very early morning hours on November 30th. Sweet boy perked up after some oxygen and IV fluids. He spent most of this night pulling out his oxygen tubing, and the nurses kept saying "we can tell this one is a fighter!" Jack got complimented on his big blue eyes more times than we could count during his time at Blank.


Fast forward to today, and we've got a much healthier boy. Thanks be to God!

Friday Favorites [7-3-2026]

  It's Friday, and it's the 4th of July Eve! Friday Favorites [6-14-2024]

  I hate to be the one to point it out...but how in the world is June almost halfway over?! I would like to hit the "slow down" button on summer, please. 😉 Like usual, I'm linking up with  Andrea  and  Erika  to share some favorites from our week. Here we go! You'll notice that many of my "favorites" are food related this week. One of the reasons I love summer is that the cooking is easy, and I can take some time making things I typically wouldn't have time for. Wednesday evening we grilled pork chops and I was hunting for a side dish. I found the ingredients for taco dip and we gobbled it right up. Taco dip is basically a salad, yes?  Jack (and big brother!) have been loving water play this summer. It has been extra warm this week, so it's been a great way to beat the heat.  We had burgers this week using my very favorite  recipe . This meal is probably one of Dustin's most loved meals! Ugh. Friday Favorites [7-10-2026]

  It's Friday!  I'm linking up with Andrea and Erika to share some favorites from the week. Here we go!  Easy favorite was our Fourth of July! We had a festive day - we went to our parade in the morning and hosted a party in the evening. Look at these cute boys!  Big fan of fireworks and sparklers over here.  Sammy's favorite from the week was the visiting frogs and axolotls to our local library. He has big dreams of owning an axolotl - he's done extensive research 😉 - but we've come to the conclusion that the age of 14 seems reasonable to own an axolotl. Haha. He was very excited to see them up close and in person!  Our slow mornings of a cold brew + the boys playing in the basement are my FAVORITE for sure! I love these days.  Roo's favorite was easily sitting on my lap while I read outside.
