Friday Favorites 9-8-2023

Happy Friday! Has anyone else had their week feel "off" from the long weekend? While I'll take a shortened work week anytime, it does seem to throw off the rest of the week. Like always, I'm linking up with Andrea and Erika to share some Friday Favorites from the week.

An easy favorite would be the return to preschool! Sammy started his first day of four year old preschool this week, and he couldn't have been more excited. I was more emotional than I thought I would be dropping him off; our house was so quiet! I got myself a Starbucks and relaxed on the couch with Jack and I quickly recovered. 😉

We held our first annual "Back to School Brinner" this week! Sammy was so excited and asked all day when it was time to eat. I kept the decorations simple and the menu even simpler but it was still a special time. I hope this becomes a long running tradition at our house! As I was flipping pancakes I chuckled thinking about how I'll have to triple the amount of food I make as the                                         boys get older.

I have been reading THE BEST BOOKS this month! Within the last week I've read "The Nightingale" by Kristin Hannah and "Only the Beautiful" by Susan Meissner. Both were exceptional books that made me so, so thankful to live at this point in time. It is amazing to me that the events described in these books happened less than 100 years ago. Right now I'm working on "The German                                   Wife." Clearly I'm having a moment with historical fiction.

Sammy started soccer practice this week for fall league! Dustin is Sammy's coach and I don't know which of the two were more excited. Their first practice landed on the hottest day of the week, and both Sammy and Dustin were sweaty messes when they returned home. I can't wait to watch him play!

I took this picture this week and cackled. Baby Jack is clearly bustin' out of his sink bath tub. Mama just isn't quite ready for him to upgrade to the bath tub yet. 😉

This was a HUGE favorite for me! With my job as a teacher, Sammy's preschool transportation is delegated to Dustin. It's been such a joy to transport him this week while I'm on maternity leave! I love hearing him chatter about his day, and what he was up to. When I pick him up we head home for lunch. Such a simple task but it brings me so much joy!

That's all for this week! Dustin officially starts his "vacation" tomorrow and will be off for 3 weeks. I transition back to school in exactly one week. I don't know where the last 15 weeks have gone. I fully intend on SOAKING up the next week together as a family. Have a great weekend! XX

Back to School "Brinner"

Comments

  1. Yep, we rarely have brinner anymore because I have to make so much food for my 3 teenage boys and still not have leftovers of any kind. I can remember making double batches of pancakes or waffles and having an entire gallon size freezer bag (or 2!) leftover for nice easy toaster breakfasts in the morning. It sounds like a wonderful week!

    1. Oh too funny! Great idea to make a double batch to freeze. I'll remember that next time!

Friday Favorites [7-3-2026]

It's Friday, and it's the 4th of July Eve! Sounds pretty good to me. 😉 I'm linking up with  Andrea  and  Erika  to share some favorites from the week.  I'm dipping my toe back into blog world because, well, I am missing documenting my kids' childhoods. It brings me such joy to go back and read through memories from years before documented in old posts, so I'm determined to hang out here a bit more consistently to share life.  This summer, I've got a seven (7?!) year old and a new 3 year old. Someone the other day was talking about what a difference a year makes from summer to summer and it is so true. For example, this year Jack and Sammy love to go play together. Last year, both boys required constant supervision. Last year Jack hated going to the pool, and this year he is a little fish! This is a BIG favorite for me! Last weekend Sammy participated in a "Run Hit Pitch" competition and won first place for hitting in his age division. He was so ...

Sammy is SEVEN!

Sammy is SEVEN! Seven years ago we were at the hospital, excited and nervous to meet our Samuel John.  Sammy was always a happy baby and toddler, and that's continued into childhood. He is so affable, friendly, and confident! He loves his family, he loves to play and he loves to be active. Games are his favorite, and he loves to "snuggle."  Since returning back to school, he's developed a huge love of reading! As a first grade teacher this WARMS my heart. He loves most books, but right now he favors graphic novels. He is the best big brother. Without us asking, he is so willing to help his brother. Just yesterday, Jack sneezed and Sammy ran to get him a wipe and then proceeded to wipe Jack's nose for him. If someone gets hurt he often hurries to see what's wrong and if he can help. He's a lot like Dustin in that he loves to have fun and be social. He's a lot like me in that he loves to make lists and know the when/how things are happening. He loves a...

Friday Favorites [10-4-2024]

Happy, HAPPY Friday!  I hate to even say it outloud, but Jack slept through the night two nights in a row this week. He's been getting so many teeth - all at the same time for about three weeks. This led to lots of broken nights of sleep for our boy. It is AMAZING how much better I feel getting a full night of sleep. Haha.  Needless to say, I'm feeling extra perky this Friday.  I'm linking up with Andrea  and  Erika  to share a few favorites from my week. 😊 Sammy's flag football team is the Chiefs, and so obviously his favorite dog supporter needed to get a matching outfit. Look at Sammy's red cheeks! We're ready for fall weather to arrive in full force over here. Haha.  This week was National Night Out in our town, and Dustin helped work it. I stopped by with the boys, and Jack was genuinely surprised to see so many people who looked like his daddy. He got so excited when he saw the first police car, but was disappointed his daddy wasn't inside. 😉 D...
