What's Up Wednesday [January]

After the LONGEST month on record, we made it to the end. And...it's the FIRST What's Up Wednesday of the month! I'm excited to be linking up with Shay and Sheaffer to share a little bit about what's up in my world.

What we're eating this week...

Sunday: Chicken Spaghetti+ side salad
Monday: Chicken Spaghetti leftovers + side salads
Tuesday: Breakfast for dinner
Wednesday: Chili, corn bread and fresh veggies
Thursday: Not sure yet! Maybe leftover chili, maybe something different
Friday: We'll grab something out 😊

My chicken spaghetti was a hit earlier this week!

And we LOVED my Nacho Potato Soup last week. This recipe is so yummy!

What I'm reminiscing about...

January is such a long month, and in my town in Iowa we had 5 snow days within 2 school weeks. Insane! Check out this drift in our backyard:

Those days at home reminded me of summer break, and the leisurely schedule we followed. It has me ready for all of the...

popsicles on the porch...

trips to the park...

& fresh produce from the garden.

I love the coziness that winter brings, but I'm ready for a little fresh air and sunlight in my life. 😊 I'm excited to bring baby Jack along for the fun this year, too! He spent most of his summer last year snuggled in his baby wrap.

What I'm loving...

Moms of littles...be prepared to be amazed. Aquaphor now comes in a stick! This has been game changing for me and my boys. They both struggle with eczema, especially during the dry winter months. This thing is like a giant chapstick and works great (and is less messy) to rub on their cheeks. BEST INVENTION EVER!

What we've been up to...

We've settled into a good groove these days. Dustin is working day shift this year, and it's been such a wonderful change for our family.

We've had opportunities for afternoon walks.

Sammy is playing basketball.

And we're watching Jack CRAWL! This baby is a baby on a mission. I could watch this video on repeat. 😉

What I'm watching and reading...

Does anyone else get to January and have a loss of what to watch on TV after all of the festive holiday movies and shows? 😂 I struggle with this each January. Haha.
Lately I've been rewatching Emily in Paris at night and hoping the next season is wrapping production soon.

So far in January, I've read The Stranger in the Life BoatThis I Know,  and The Last Love Note. I'm currently reading Outlive, and am about 50% finished. I don't think that Outlive will necessarily be my favorite book that I read this year, but I do think it will end up being the most important book that I read this year. It is all about increasing our longevity, and how to get the most out of our older decades. I've gone down a rabbit hole, that is for certain. 😅

What I'm listening to...

As I currently write this, I am listening to an episode of Emily in Paris and the feedback of the baby monitor in the background.

While at school, I've been listening to this playlist on Spotify. It's music by Michael Giacchino, who has written lots of themes and scores found in Disney movies. It's really relaxing to listen to!

What I'm wearing...

My winter wardrobe is in full rotation these days. My husband got me these shoes for Christmas and I've been wearing them on repeat! They are super neutral and go great with my uniform of bottoms and a sweater.

What I'm doing this weekend...

This weekend Dustin works (womp womp) so I'll be on my own with the boys. I think I'll load our crew up for some shopping over the weekend. I need to restock our freezer with some items from Trader Joe's. If you've been recently and have a product recommendation, let me know! Otherwise it will the usual: church, laundry and cleaning. 😊 I savor these slow weekends now, as I am certain they will only get busier as the boys get older!

I hope you have the best rest of your week, and the best start to February! XX

Friday Favorites [10-4-2024]

Happy, HAPPY Friday!  I hate to even say it outloud, but Jack slept through the night two nights in a row this week. He's been getting so many teeth - all at the same time for about three weeks. This led to lots of broken nights of sleep for our boy. It is AMAZING how much better I feel getting a full night of sleep. Haha.  Needless to say, I'm feeling extra perky this Friday.  I'm linking up with Andrea  and  Erika  to share a few favorites from my week. 😊 Sammy's flag football team is the Chiefs, and so obviously his favorite dog supporter needed to get a matching outfit. Look at Sammy's red cheeks! We're ready for fall weather to arrive in full force over here. Haha.  This week was National Night Out in our town, and Dustin helped work it. I stopped by with the boys, and Jack was genuinely surprised to see so many people who looked like his daddy. He got so excited when he saw the first police car, but was disappointed his daddy wasn't inside. 😉 D...

The Brisel family is OFF!

I'm so excited to share that our family is celebrating the holiday season at our very favorite place...Disney World! This trip has been a long time coming. We have been saving and planning for over a year, and yesterday we [yes we...Santa doesn't get credit for this one 😉] surprised our boys with a trip to Disney World for their Christmas gift. Disney is truly Dustin and my happy place, so we couldn't be more excited to bring the boys!  While we're gone I plan to blog about our trip, so I'm hoping to share an update tomorrow evening. For some who may not know, I am working my way through the certification process of becoming a Smart Moms Travel Agent, which is a travel company that specializes in trips to Disney World. I'm hopeful that it might turn into a fun hobby that lets me share a little bit of my Disney knowledge with other families. 😊 I thought blogging our trip would be a fun resource to share with future clients! For a little recap of today... We wer...

Disney World: Day 5 Recap

Rest days are a necessity for any Disney vacation, no matter the length of your trip. 😉 We have been pushing it and hoofing it all over Disney World, so we were overdue! Our plans today included a character breakfast with Minnie and her friends, spending time at the pool, and a character dinner at 1900 Park Fare.  Both boys slept in until 7:00 which was amazing! We got dressed and ready and began our way towards Cape May Cafe located at The Beach Club Resort. We took the Skyliner from our resort to the International Gateway at Epcot. From there, we had about a 5 minute walk to our restaurant. Super easy!  This character meal is one of the lesser known options for character dining. We've done character dining at Topolino's Terrace (amazing!), Tusker House and Chef Mickey's, so we were excited to try something different. Minnie, Daisy, Donald and Goofy are all dressed in their beach attire, and make their way around the restaurant several times. You're also able to do a ...
