Evening Routine 4PM-Bedtime

Happy Wednesday! Today I'm sharing my evening routine as a follow-up to my Morning Routine post from a few weeks back. On this day it was truly a normal day - no appointments or activities in the evening, AND Dustin was on his "off days" which makes life a little easier.

Here we go!

At exactly 3:30PM I walked out the door of my school building. I've been teaching for almost ten years (10 years in January!) and I really think this is one of the reasons why I'm still a teacher and haven't gotten burnt out yet. In my early years of teaching, a coworker told me that my "school to-do" list would never be complete until the last day of school, and that it was OK to leave some tasks unfinished. Occasionally I will stay late (or more likely, come early) if necessary, but I try really hard to always leave school by 3:30PM.

Since Dustin was on his off days, I was able to drive immediately home! I pulled in the garage right at 3:40 and...

was greeted first by our happy pup, Roo. 😊 My boys came to see me right after.

I washed my hands and immediately went upstairs to change. Anybody else like this? Once I am "done" for the day, I have to put on comfies, put my hair in a pony and take my jewelry off.

After changing, I nursed Jack and sat to spend some time with Jack, Sammy and Dustin. This week our weather has been super nice, and we've been trying to soak it in before the cold of winter settles in. So, we headed out on a walk.

Sammy rode his scooter and Dustin pushed Jack in the stroller. When I snapped this picture Sammy was taking a scooter break because "his legs were tired." But, then he grabbed Jack's hand to hold and said "I'll hold your hand so you don't fall." Awww!

Then we were home and it was time to make/clean bottles and pump parts and prepare dinner. At this point, Jack settled in for a short little nap. We call it the "last chance nap" that helps him make it to bedtime.

This night, things were super easy since we had a meal from the freezer. Over the weekend I made a large batch of chicken pot pies and froze one. We had it with some homemade noodles on the side that were also from the freezer. It was a very starchy meal but full of comfort!

Dustin typically plays with the boys while I clean up dinner. Then it was bath time for the boys. Jack has outgrown his baby bath tub in the sink so they enjoy what Sammy calls a "brother bath" at night. Sammy had just a little fun with the bubbles. Haha

We headed back downstairs for some more playtime. Jack had a little tummy time and we played a game of Trouble. Sammy really loves to play board games lately and it's something fun we can do together!

At 6:45 Jack was ready for his last feeding, so I took him upstairs while Sammy and Dustin watched a show.

At 7:30 it was bedtime for Sammy John! We always read 3 books each night. I rotate the basket of books in his room seasonally, and tonight we read some Christmas stories. 'Tis the season (just a bit early 😉).

After the boys go to sleep Dustin and I basically give each other a high-five and settle in for the rest of the night. It's amazing how quiet things are with both boys asleep!

This made me laugh out loud. It's so true!

That's all for today...see you back here tomorrow! XX

Friday Favorites [5-3-2024]

Yay! It's Friday and it's the month of MAY! Both of those things are very good things in my book. Today I'm linking up with  Andrea  and  Erika  to share some favorites from the week.  On Monday I shared that we had a busy weekend! My mom and I hosted a Bridal Shower for my sweet cousin Caitlin, and then our new niece and nephew were baptized on Sunday. It was a fun (but tiring) way to spend the weekend!  Jack especially loved all of the family time, and was happy to sneak in some giggles with Great Grandma before the shower began. 😉 We whipped up these  Burrito Bowls  for dinner one night this week, and it was a new favorite. It was such an easy meal that Dustin and I both loved!  It's May, which means that it's time for me to read "Charlotte's Web" to my class. I read it every year during the month of May! This book has seen much better years - I think it's time for a new copy. Haha.  The boys and I love to play in the basement...

Friday Favorites [9-6-2024]

I'm always happy to see Friday, but especially when the weather calls for... this gloriousness this weekend, I.Can't.Wait.!  I'm linking up with Andrea  and Erika  to share some favorites from our busy, short week!  These brothers get so excited to see each other everyday after school, it melts me! They were together at childcare last year, so it makes me think that they have to be missing each other this year.  Brother time is always a favorite of mine. 😊 The chicken street taco kit from Costco is a favorite as well! This time of year it's important to get dinner on the table quickly and I love that this kit involves minimal clean-up.  This little boy is determined to start walking. He's getting braver and braver by the day!  There's a new flag football player in town. 😉 Sammy started flag football this week and I can't wait to watch him in action this fall! This is his "tough face." Haha.  Sammy's lunches have been a favorite for sure....

Friday Favorites [8-9-2024]

It's Friday! I'm linking up with  Andrea  and  Erika  to share some favorites from my week.  I don't even know HOW it happened, but this is my last official week of summer. Can you hear me crying from wherever you are? 😅 June passed slowly, but July and August flew. I know that I will blink and the upcoming week will be over.  We've just been over here trying to soak in all  that's left of summer. 😉 On August 6th, Dustin and I celebrated 8 years of marriage! We celebrated with our first date night in an entire calendar year.  With Jack's allergies and Dustin's crazy work schedule, we find it so hard to get out just the two of us. It's a goal of ours to make it a priority this year!  Sammy's Kindergarten backpack, lunchbox and thermos came and he couldn't have been more excited. We loaded up all of his supplies and he is ready. Me on the other hand? I need someone to come over here and hold me. Haha.  Smiley boys at the park are ...
