A Day in the Life

Many of the bloggers I frequently follow share newsy "Day in the Life" blog posts. I always enjoy reading these posts so I thought I would create one, too. Someday I think I'll enjoy looking back on this and remembering what life looked like in August 2023 with a four year old and a two month old. :)

Up and at 'em! For the first time anyways. :) Baby Jack has his middle of the night feeding and while he eats I read a chapter or so of a book. I typically give Dustin a text to let him know that Jack is having a feeding so he doesn't worry about us, and head back to bed as soon as he is finished eating. On this night there was a terrible storm outside - hail, lightening, thunder, and heavy rains. Our dog Roo HATES storms, so I wasn't able to go back to sleep as quickly as I would have liked. I think we drifted back to sleep around 4:20.

Now it's wake-up time for real. :) We slept in this morning! Sammy joined me in bed and we snuggled for a little bit before I finally got up. We headed downstairs, and it was breakfast time for both of the boys.

After Jack eats and gets a diaper change, it's finally mama's turn! Today I had a bowl of oatmeal topped with berries. Oats are great for boosting your milk supply and it's a meal that I can eat one handed and keeps me full for awhile. Both of those things are a plus in my book these days. Haha!

Awww, look at those sleepy eyes. :)

Dustin works the overnight shift as a police officer and gets home around 7:40. On this day he was completely DRENCHED from a call he took in the middle of the torrential rainstorm last night...poor guy. Even though he was still soaking wet hours after the call, he stopped by the gas station for a donut for Sammy and a fountain Diet Pepsi for me. He clearly knows our love languages well. :) Dustin hung with the boys so I could grab a quick shower and get myself ready for the day before he went to sleep.

8:30 We had some more playtime and then I put Jack down for his first nap of the day. While he sleeps I try to be very intentional about playing with Sammy and giving him some 1:1 attention. Today we played a few rounds of Spot-It. This card game is absolutely his favorite and I'd guess we've played over a hundred games this summer!

9:10 Jack is up! A short nap, but that's ok. We got him ready for the day, he nursed again, and we were off to a coffee date at a local coffee shop. We met up with my dear friend, Bri and one of her daughters. An iced skinny vanilla latte for me and a cookie for Sammy is the BEST start to our Friday. :)

11:00 A latte and some grown-up conversation later and it was time to leave. We stopped by Wal-Mart to grab our online grocery order pick-up. God Bless 2023, and curbside pick-up orders. I typically do a Wal-Mart pick-up order on Fridays and it is such a gift of time and simplicity!

11:20 We're home! Time to unload groceries, wiggles on the playmat for Jack and lunch for Sammy and I. At this point I realized I hadn't had a beverage without caffeine today (oops) so I chugged some water. Jack was content to wiggle around on his playmat for a bit while we ate.

12:10 Jack nursed again and then it was time for a diaper change and a nap. After I put him down I finished putting away the rest of the groceries, swapped laundry and started some bread in the bread machine to have with our dinner tonight. It's always a race against Jack's nap to see how much I can get done. On this day he woke up around 1:10, but I was able to soothe him back to sleep.

1:40 Jack woke up again but was still sleepy, so he snoozed in his swing while Sammy and I did some work. On this day he practiced name writing and cutting. Before we got started he told me that his feet were cold and proceeded to get his fuzzy socks from his bedroom upstairs. Nothing like some fuzzy socks on an 87 degree August day!

2:30 We went outside and Sammy enjoyed a little pool time. I think I've heard the phrase, "Mom, watch this!" a minimum of 6783 times this summer. :)

4:00 We headed inside, took the bread out of the bread machine, and Sammy got dressed. Daddy was up for the "day." These boys are infatuated with Dustin - they are both all smiles when they are around him! We played for a bit, Dustin went to run an errand to his parent's house, and I settled Jack in for a nap.

5:30 Dinner Preparation time! On this night we had BLTs, some tomato soup, and veggies on the side. It's getting to the point of summer where I am getting excited to put my slow cooker to work. I LOVE grilled, light food but I always welcome the shift our menu follows when the seasons begin to change.

6:00 We enjoyed dinner and then I cleaned up while Dustin played with the boys on the floor. Dinner was delicious but I have ZERO pictures of it. Sounds about right for life with a newborn during the witching hours. Haha!

6:45 The boys take baths each night and we typically divide and conquer. Fun fact - I love doing bath time until about the age of 3 when they start splashing in the tub like mad men. Right now Dustin typically bathes Sammy and I take care of Jack. I absolutely love a freshly bathed baby!

7:15 Sammy and Dustin watched a bit of Peppa Pig before they joined me in the nursery where I was nursing Jack. I always pour myself a La Croix over ice during our last feeding of the day. This feeding always seems to be the longest, and it's a nice little "reward" at the end of the day. It's the little things in life, right?! Dustin read books to the boys while I finished nursing Jack and put him down for the night. We finished tidying up the main floor and Dustin got himself ready for work.

8:40 Dustin went to work and I got myself settled in for the night. I typically always try to go to bed before 10PM most nights but it's hard to not enjoy those few minutes of peace and quiet. :) On this night I turned on "The Greatest Showman" and scrolled on Pinterest for a bit before falling asleep around 9:45.

I hope you enjoyed following along with me! I didn't realize quite how many transitions our day had until I started keeping track. I love this busy little life we've created with our boys!

Friday Favorites [3-1-2024]

It's Friday and I'm here sharing my favorites from the week. As usual, I'm linking up with  Andrea  and  Erika . Here we go!  My very first favorite is that Jack is 9 months old today! I can't believe he's been "out" for as long as I was pregnant with him. 😊 He is the happiest little baby, and we just can't imagine life without him. I shared a little monthly update on the blog today as well.  Another favorite is that Sammy lost his second tooth over the weekend. He pulled it out himself! I told him that pretty soon he won't have any teeth left. 😉 An easy sheet meal dinner was perfect for our Wednesday night. I took some italian chicken sausage, sweet potato gnocchi, and green beans, plus a little olive oil and seasonings and roasted it up for about 20 minutes. Sammy loves chicken sausages, so a fuss-free dinner is always a win in my book.  We put out some St. Patrick's Day books over the weekend and have been enjoying reading them. I keep a...

Friday Favorites [4-5-2024]

Hello, Friday. It's always nice to see you. 😉 I'm linking up with  Andrea  and  Erika  to share some favorites from my week. Here we go!  My first favorites are these sweet Easter pictures. We had a fun weekend celebrating! I love any reason for my little boys to get dressed up and get a cute picture. 😉 Another favorite on April 1st was celebrating Jack's 10 month birthday! I can't believe in two months he will be one. I loved this picture showing off his top two teeth.  3 years ago, my family was at one of our favorite places...Disney World! We went to Florida over Easter in 2021 with my extended family and it was a fun little trip. This trip was rescheduled from March of 2020, and I love seeing all of the memories from our trip. Sammy looks SO LITTLE.  In this picture we were riding Dumbo. I remember that Sammy got off the ride and promptly asked to go again. Haha.  We made my  Easy Weeknight Tostadas  on Tuesday of this week ...

Friday Favorites [5-3-2024]

Yay! It's Friday and it's the month of MAY! Both of those things are very good things in my book. Today I'm linking up with  Andrea  and  Erika  to share some favorites from the week.  On Monday I shared that we had a busy weekend! My mom and I hosted a Bridal Shower for my sweet cousin Caitlin, and then our new niece and nephew were baptized on Sunday. It was a fun (but tiring) way to spend the weekend!  Jack especially loved all of the family time, and was happy to sneak in some giggles with Great Grandma before the shower began. 😉 We whipped up these  Burrito Bowls  for dinner one night this week, and it was a new favorite. It was such an easy meal that Dustin and I both loved!  It's May, which means that it's time for me to read "Charlotte's Web" to my class. I read it every year during the month of May! This book has seen much better years - I think it's time for a new copy. Haha.  The boys and I love to play in the basement...
