Savoring the Seasons: Fall

Happy Friday Eve! I really like Thursdays. There's something wonderful about knowing that tomorrow is Friday. 😊

If I had to list out my favorite seasons, I think they would be winter, fall, summer and then spring. I love each season for a variety of reasons, but winter has to be my favorite. Today I'm sharing the different ways I really try to "lean" in and savor the different seasons. I'm all about romanticizing life, and making each day special.

#1 - my cooking

In the summer I am all about light dishes cooked on the grill. In the fall and winter, I want cozy, comfort foods. This time of year I'm starting to make soups, using richer ingredients and different flavors to make it really feel like fall. Food is a language, and cooking for my family is one of my favorite things to do this time of year.

#2 - drink from a seasonal mug

This brings me a lot of joy. 😊 This time of year, I am reaching for my pumpkin mug to pour in my pumpkin coffee with a splash of pumpkin creamer. Bring it on!

#3 - change my wardrobe

This one is tricky because right now it's 90 degrees out and I'd really prefer a 55 degree day. But - I try to do little changes in how I dress and paint my nails to coordinate the season. I am finding myself reaching for "warmer" colors and my sundresses are being tucked back until next year.

#4 - change my scents

I like to use "cozier" scented lotions and perfumes for this time of year, rather than the lighter floral scents of spring and summer. In my home I am lighting pumpkin and apple scented candles and loving it.

#5 - seasonal playlists

This one may sound silly, but I have a "summer" playlist and a "fall/winter" playlist. Haha. My summer playlist has a whole lot of John Mellencamp, and my fall/winter playlist leans more Michael Buble and Tony Bennett. It's a little way that I can soak up the season a bit more.

That's all for today! I hope my list inspires you to pick up a candle that smells like fall, and make a loaf of pumpkin bread this weekend. Cheers! 🍁

Friday Favorites [10-4-2024]

Happy, HAPPY Friday!  I hate to even say it outloud, but Jack slept through the night two nights in a row this week. He's been getting so many teeth - all at the same time for about three weeks. This led to lots of broken nights of sleep for our boy. It is AMAZING how much better I feel getting a full night of sleep. Haha.  Needless to say, I'm feeling extra perky this Friday.  I'm linking up with Andrea  and  Erika  to share a few favorites from my week. 😊 Sammy's flag football team is the Chiefs, and so obviously his favorite dog supporter needed to get a matching outfit. Look at Sammy's red cheeks! We're ready for fall weather to arrive in full force over here. Haha.  This week was National Night Out in our town, and Dustin helped work it. I stopped by with the boys, and Jack was genuinely surprised to see so many people who looked like his daddy. He got so excited when he saw the first police car, but was disappointed his daddy wasn't inside. 😉 D...

The Brisel family is OFF!

I'm so excited to share that our family is celebrating the holiday season at our very favorite place...Disney World! This trip has been a long time coming. We have been saving and planning for over a year, and yesterday we [yes we...Santa doesn't get credit for this one 😉] surprised our boys with a trip to Disney World for their Christmas gift. Disney is truly Dustin and my happy place, so we couldn't be more excited to bring the boys!  While we're gone I plan to blog about our trip, so I'm hoping to share an update tomorrow evening. For some who may not know, I am working my way through the certification process of becoming a Smart Moms Travel Agent, which is a travel company that specializes in trips to Disney World. I'm hopeful that it might turn into a fun hobby that lets me share a little bit of my Disney knowledge with other families. 😊 I thought blogging our trip would be a fun resource to share with future clients! For a little recap of today... We wer...

Disney World: Day 5 Recap

Rest days are a necessity for any Disney vacation, no matter the length of your trip. 😉 We have been pushing it and hoofing it all over Disney World, so we were overdue! Our plans today included a character breakfast with Minnie and her friends, spending time at the pool, and a character dinner at 1900 Park Fare.  Both boys slept in until 7:00 which was amazing! We got dressed and ready and began our way towards Cape May Cafe located at The Beach Club Resort. We took the Skyliner from our resort to the International Gateway at Epcot. From there, we had about a 5 minute walk to our restaurant. Super easy!  This character meal is one of the lesser known options for character dining. We've done character dining at Topolino's Terrace (amazing!), Tusker House and Chef Mickey's, so we were excited to try something different. Minnie, Daisy, Donald and Goofy are all dressed in their beach attire, and make their way around the restaurant several times. You're also able to do a ...
