July Recap

I say it every single summer, and yet every single summer it surprises me: After the Fourth of July, the summer just flies by.

How is it the last week of July?!

I've done a pretty good job avoiding the "Back to School" advertisements and aisles, but I think it's getting to be time to face the music. 😂

We have had a really, really good summer. It's been different, balancing an active 5 year old, and a 1 year old who is still very reliant on getting his daytime naps in. When I think back to last summer, I remember lots of slow days at home, lots of naps on the couch, and lots of backyard play. This summer has involved a lot of shuffling Sammy around to camps, trips to the pool, and lots of food trialing for Jack. Jack finally began sleeping through the night (YAY!) and so this summer has been restful as well.

I love a good routine, so I know I will welcome the return of one when school starts, but I'm just not quite ready to have one in place yet. 😉

Here are some highlights from our July:

One of our Christmas gifts from my parents was a projector so we can watch movies outside. It is SO MUCH FUN! We love to have a fire, enjoy a s'more (or two!) and watch a movie together.

This month we've been able to add lots of new foods to Jack's safe food list. He can have tomatoes, sweet potato, white potato, green beans, black beans, white nectarines and yellow peppers. Very exciting times over here. 😉

We did an organizational overhaul of the basement which was desperately needed. After donating or selling lots of old toys we got some new shelves installed and rearranged some things. This project took a few days and it's so nice to have it crossed off the "to-do" list.

Sammy and another little friend went to a camp at Living History Farms in Des Moines and he loved it! We stayed in town and ran errands on the days we transported until it was time to pick them up. One morning we took Jack to the zoo and it was fun to enjoy a little 1:1 time with him.

Another night another movie in the driveway. This time it was "Ratatouille."

The end of July brings a lot of birthdays in my family. On this day, we celebrated my dad's birthday!

& one last picture. Sammy and Dustin got to go fishing one afternoon/evening and had great luck catching catfish! I love this picture Dustin took. Sammy is looking older and older every day. It's so hard to believe that he'll be going to Kindergarten in just a few weeks.

Thanks for playing catch-up with me! I'll be back tomorrow. XX

Friday Favorites [10-4-2024]

Happy, HAPPY Friday!  I hate to even say it outloud, but Jack slept through the night two nights in a row this week. He's been getting so many teeth - all at the same time for about three weeks. This led to lots of broken nights of sleep for our boy. It is AMAZING how much better I feel getting a full night of sleep. Haha.  Needless to say, I'm feeling extra perky this Friday.  I'm linking up with Andrea  and  Erika  to share a few favorites from my week. 😊 Sammy's flag football team is the Chiefs, and so obviously his favorite dog supporter needed to get a matching outfit. Look at Sammy's red cheeks! We're ready for fall weather to arrive in full force over here. Haha.  This week was National Night Out in our town, and Dustin helped work it. I stopped by with the boys, and Jack was genuinely surprised to see so many people who looked like his daddy. He got so excited when he saw the first police car, but was disappointed his daddy wasn't inside. 😉 D...

The Brisel family is OFF!

I'm so excited to share that our family is celebrating the holiday season at our very favorite place...Disney World! This trip has been a long time coming. We have been saving and planning for over a year, and yesterday we [yes we...Santa doesn't get credit for this one 😉] surprised our boys with a trip to Disney World for their Christmas gift. Disney is truly Dustin and my happy place, so we couldn't be more excited to bring the boys!  While we're gone I plan to blog about our trip, so I'm hoping to share an update tomorrow evening. For some who may not know, I am working my way through the certification process of becoming a Smart Moms Travel Agent, which is a travel company that specializes in trips to Disney World. I'm hopeful that it might turn into a fun hobby that lets me share a little bit of my Disney knowledge with other families. 😊 I thought blogging our trip would be a fun resource to share with future clients! For a little recap of today... We wer...

Disney World: Day 5 Recap

Rest days are a necessity for any Disney vacation, no matter the length of your trip. 😉 We have been pushing it and hoofing it all over Disney World, so we were overdue! Our plans today included a character breakfast with Minnie and her friends, spending time at the pool, and a character dinner at 1900 Park Fare.  Both boys slept in until 7:00 which was amazing! We got dressed and ready and began our way towards Cape May Cafe located at The Beach Club Resort. We took the Skyliner from our resort to the International Gateway at Epcot. From there, we had about a 5 minute walk to our restaurant. Super easy!  This character meal is one of the lesser known options for character dining. We've done character dining at Topolino's Terrace (amazing!), Tusker House and Chef Mickey's, so we were excited to try something different. Minnie, Daisy, Donald and Goofy are all dressed in their beach attire, and make their way around the restaurant several times. You're also able to do a ...
