"Lazy Genius" Hacks

Hi, friends! I just finished this book & let me tell you...

it was worth the read. It's all about "life hacks," and really inspiring ways to make your life easier without complicating things, or making things too difficult. It lists lots of ideas of ways to simplify life, and to help you cultivate a life that you enjoy. In this book the author described how she doesn't like the way drinking water on an empty stomach in the morning feels, so she stopped - and drinks coffee instead. She said that just because society dictates that you "should" do something, if you don't enjoy it, you shouldn't do it. The book doesn't give permission for a free for all, but it does give permission for us to make life something we enjoy. She shared all sorts of tips and tricks that she incorporates to her life daily, and as a working mom of two, I ate them up. Today, I'm stealing some inspiration. I made a list of my own "lazy genius life hacks" that I swear by, and so I thought I'd share them here.

Lazy Genius Hack #1 - "Turn-Down" Service

If I know that my family is going to be out late in the evening, I like to do "turn-down" service for us before we leave to make re-entry a little easier when we come home. This looks like...

  • laying out pajamas/sleepsacks
  • filling humidifiers
  • loading toothbrushes with toothpaste
...basically getting all the things ready, so we're able to get to bed quickly and efficiently when we return home. This makes our evening routine a little easier when we're undoubtedly working with tired kids.

Lazy Genius Hack #2 - Leftovers on Mondays

Whatever meal we're having on Sunday, I make sure that there's enough for us to have leftovers on Monday evenings. For example, this Sunday we grilled hamburgers, and I made certain that there would be plenty for us to have enough burgers for dinner on Monday, too. Doing this lightens my mental load on Mondays, and it makes Monday evenings a little more relaxing. This is one of my favorite "lazy genius methods."

Lazy Genius Hack #3 - Self-Care Sunday Reset

I always try to take a little bit of extra time on Sunday evenings for a self-care reset. For me, this looks like doing my eyebrows, shaving my legs, filing my nails, and smoothing on a face mask before crawling into bed. I really like to do this at the start of my week, as I think it just starts the week out on a nice note.

And lastly...

Lazy Genius Hack #4 - Pack your lunch the night before

If I don't pack my lunch the night before, there's a really good chance I won't pack one the next day, and I'll have to end up grabbing something out. As dinner dishes are getting tidied up, I like to take a few minutes to make sure that I have something packaged and set aside in the fridge before the kitchen is "closed" for the night. Over the weekends, I like to make a large batch of salads to eat throughout the week (maybe this is another "Lazy Genius" Life Hack), so I'll stick that to the side of the fridge along with any other snacks I'll eat the next day. The next morning all I have to do is grab and go, and there's no excuses for not having a healthy lunch.

That's it for today! I encourage you to download or pick-up this book. It was a great one for me! XX

Friday Favorites [3-1-2024]

It's Friday and I'm here sharing my favorites from the week. As usual, I'm linking up with  Andrea  and  Erika . Here we go!  My very first favorite is that Jack is 9 months old today! I can't believe he's been "out" for as long as I was pregnant with him. ๐Ÿ˜Š He is the happiest little baby, and we just can't imagine life without him. I shared a little monthly update on the blog today as well.  Another favorite is that Sammy lost his second tooth over the weekend. He pulled it out himself! I told him that pretty soon he won't have any teeth left. ๐Ÿ˜‰ An easy sheet meal dinner was perfect for our Wednesday night. I took some italian chicken sausage, sweet potato gnocchi, and green beans, plus a little olive oil and seasonings and roasted it up for about 20 minutes. Sammy loves chicken sausages, so a fuss-free dinner is always a win in my book.  We put out some St. Patrick's Day books over the weekend and have been enjoying reading them. I keep a...

Friday Favorites [4-5-2024]

Hello, Friday. It's always nice to see you. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I'm linking up with  Andrea  and  Erika  to share some favorites from my week. Here we go!  My first favorites are these sweet Easter pictures. We had a fun weekend celebrating! I love any reason for my little boys to get dressed up and get a cute picture. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Another favorite on April 1st was celebrating Jack's 10 month birthday! I can't believe in two months he will be one. I loved this picture showing off his top two teeth.  3 years ago, my family was at one of our favorite places...Disney World! We went to Florida over Easter in 2021 with my extended family and it was a fun little trip. This trip was rescheduled from March of 2020, and I love seeing all of the memories from our trip. Sammy looks SO LITTLE.  In this picture we were riding Dumbo. I remember that Sammy got off the ride and promptly asked to go again. Haha.  We made my  Easy Weeknight Tostadas  on Tuesday of this week ...

Friday Favorites [5-3-2024]

Yay! It's Friday and it's the month of MAY! Both of those things are very good things in my book. Today I'm linking up with  Andrea  and  Erika  to share some favorites from the week.  On Monday I shared that we had a busy weekend! My mom and I hosted a Bridal Shower for my sweet cousin Caitlin, and then our new niece and nephew were baptized on Sunday. It was a fun (but tiring) way to spend the weekend!  Jack especially loved all of the family time, and was happy to sneak in some giggles with Great Grandma before the shower began. ๐Ÿ˜‰ We whipped up these  Burrito Bowls  for dinner one night this week, and it was a new favorite. It was such an easy meal that Dustin and I both loved!  It's May, which means that it's time for me to read "Charlotte's Web" to my class. I read it every year during the month of May! This book has seen much better years - I think it's time for a new copy. Haha.  The boys and I love to play in the basement...
