"Lazy Genius" Hacks

Hi, friends! I just finished this book & let me tell you...

it was worth the read. It's all about "life hacks," and really inspiring ways to make your life easier without complicating things, or making things too difficult. It lists lots of ideas of ways to simplify life, and to help you cultivate a life that you enjoy. In this book the author described how she doesn't like the way drinking water on an empty stomach in the morning feels, so she stopped - and drinks coffee instead. She said that just because society dictates that you "should" do something, if you don't enjoy it, you shouldn't do it. The book doesn't give permission for a free for all, but it does give permission for us to make life something we enjoy. She shared all sorts of tips and tricks that she incorporates to her life daily, and as a working mom of two, I ate them up. Today, I'm stealing some inspiration. I made a list of my own "lazy genius life hacks" that I swear by, and so I thought I'd share them here.

Lazy Genius Hack #1 - "Turn-Down" Service

If I know that my family is going to be out late in the evening, I like to do "turn-down" service for us before we leave to make re-entry a little easier when we come home. This looks like...

  • laying out pajamas/sleepsacks
  • filling humidifiers
  • loading toothbrushes with toothpaste
...basically getting all the things ready, so we're able to get to bed quickly and efficiently when we return home. This makes our evening routine a little easier when we're undoubtedly working with tired kids.

Lazy Genius Hack #2 - Leftovers on Mondays

Whatever meal we're having on Sunday, I make sure that there's enough for us to have leftovers on Monday evenings. For example, this Sunday we grilled hamburgers, and I made certain that there would be plenty for us to have enough burgers for dinner on Monday, too. Doing this lightens my mental load on Mondays, and it makes Monday evenings a little more relaxing. This is one of my favorite "lazy genius methods."

Lazy Genius Hack #3 - Self-Care Sunday Reset

I always try to take a little bit of extra time on Sunday evenings for a self-care reset. For me, this looks like doing my eyebrows, shaving my legs, filing my nails, and smoothing on a face mask before crawling into bed. I really like to do this at the start of my week, as I think it just starts the week out on a nice note.

And lastly...

Lazy Genius Hack #4 - Pack your lunch the night before

If I don't pack my lunch the night before, there's a really good chance I won't pack one the next day, and I'll have to end up grabbing something out. As dinner dishes are getting tidied up, I like to take a few minutes to make sure that I have something packaged and set aside in the fridge before the kitchen is "closed" for the night. Over the weekends, I like to make a large batch of salads to eat throughout the week (maybe this is another "Lazy Genius" Life Hack), so I'll stick that to the side of the fridge along with any other snacks I'll eat the next day. The next morning all I have to do is grab and go, and there's no excuses for not having a healthy lunch.

That's it for today! I encourage you to download or pick-up this book. It was a great one for me! XX

Jackson Nicholas is TWO!

Jackson Nicholas is officially TWO years old today!  He's been so fun lately, and definitely showing off his two-ness. 😉 He's got a LOT to say.  He loves his big brother and wants to do anything and everything that he does.  He loves his family and talks about them all day long. He loves Mickey Mouse and can't wait for his next trip to the castle.  He loves to play outside! We'll be living in the backyard this summer.  He loves to EAT! This has been his biggest area of growth from this time last year. At his first birthday party, he was just able to eat single-ingredient foods due to his allergies - we just didn't know what was safe for him. Yesterday he was able to have a cupcake..with frosting!  Such a win!  We love him and his silly little personality. We can't wait to celebrate him today!

Sammy is SEVEN!

Sammy is SEVEN! Seven years ago we were at the hospital, excited and nervous to meet our Samuel John.  Sammy was always a happy baby and toddler, and that's continued into childhood. He is so affable, friendly, and confident! He loves his family, he loves to play and he loves to be active. Games are his favorite, and he loves to "snuggle."  Since returning back to school, he's developed a huge love of reading! As a first grade teacher this WARMS my heart. He loves most books, but right now he favors graphic novels. He is the best big brother. Without us asking, he is so willing to help his brother. Just yesterday, Jack sneezed and Sammy ran to get him a wipe and then proceeded to wipe Jack's nose for him. If someone gets hurt he often hurries to see what's wrong and if he can help. He's a lot like Dustin in that he loves to have fun and be social. He's a lot like me in that he loves to make lists and know the when/how things are happening. He loves a...

What's Up Wednesday [September 2024]

And just like that...it's the last week of the month! Time for What's Up Wednesday with  Sheaffer  and  Shay .  What We're Eating this Week... Fall weather is officially upon us, so I'm craving warm, comforting meals. This week's menu is... Sunday - Meatloaf and green beans Monday - Chicken Pot Pie with a green salad Tuesday - "Smash Burger" tacos  Wednesday - BBQ Chicken bowls Thursday - Spaghetti  Friday - we're grilling up the Trader Joe's Unexpected Cheddar Chicken sausages...so good!  My boys have been eating a lot of pumpkin muffins this week. I had to make a second batch this evening because Sammy ate 5 (5!) in one day.  We're basically eating pumpkin in whatever we can these days, which is why I made these pumpkin sourdough discard bagels. A warm bagel + pumpkin cream cheese from Trader Joe's = a little slice of heaven. 😊 What I'm reminiscing about... As always...this time last year. Look how small and squishy Baby Jack was!  T...
