Ash Wednesday Eve thoughts

I think either one of two things need to happen: 1. The Super Bowl needs to be played on a Saturday, or, 2. The Monday following the Super Bowl needs to be a national holiday. Haha! Even though our Super Bowl Sunday was a normal day, the later night definitely made my Monday seem a little off.

Tomorrow is Ash Wednesday which marks the beginning of Lent. It feels like Lent is starting early this year, and I know that Easter will be here before we know it!

Growing up, we were always encouraged to "give something up" for Lent. I typically gave up chocolate, and failed miserably after the first few days.

My mom would challenge us to do something, rather than giving something up, and I was much better at this. I've continued to do this over the years, and done things like: pray the rosary more frequently, contact with extended family through phone calls or cards, or even delivering baked goods or meals to friends around me. This year, I've decided that I am going to challenge myself to reduce my time on social media to an hour every day. Now, I know that an hour seems like a long time, but I always surprise myself with how easily I get sucked into "mindless scrolling" throughout the day. I will put a 1 hour cap on my social media time, and I anticipate that it will cause me to be much more intentional about when, and how frequently I am picking up my phone. Wish me luck. 😉

See you back here tomorrow!

The Brisel family is OFF!

I'm so excited to share that our family is celebrating the holiday season at our very favorite place...Disney World! This trip has been a long time coming. We have been saving and planning for over a year, and yesterday we [yes we...Santa doesn't get credit for this one 😉] surprised our boys with a trip to Disney World for their Christmas gift. Disney is truly Dustin and my happy place, so we couldn't be more excited to bring the boys!  While we're gone I plan to blog about our trip, so I'm hoping to share an update tomorrow evening. For some who may not know, I am working my way through the certification process of becoming a Smart Moms Travel Agent, which is a travel company that specializes in trips to Disney World. I'm hopeful that it might turn into a fun hobby that lets me share a little bit of my Disney knowledge with other families. 😊 I thought blogging our trip would be a fun resource to share with future clients! For a little recap of today... We wer...

Disney World: Day 5 Recap

Rest days are a necessity for any Disney vacation, no matter the length of your trip. 😉 We have been pushing it and hoofing it all over Disney World, so we were overdue! Our plans today included a character breakfast with Minnie and her friends, spending time at the pool, and a character dinner at 1900 Park Fare.  Both boys slept in until 7:00 which was amazing! We got dressed and ready and began our way towards Cape May Cafe located at The Beach Club Resort. We took the Skyliner from our resort to the International Gateway at Epcot. From there, we had about a 5 minute walk to our restaurant. Super easy!  This character meal is one of the lesser known options for character dining. We've done character dining at Topolino's Terrace (amazing!), Tusker House and Chef Mickey's, so we were excited to try something different. Minnie, Daisy, Donald and Goofy are all dressed in their beach attire, and make their way around the restaurant several times. You're also able to do a ...

Jackson Nicholas is TWO!

Jackson Nicholas is officially TWO years old today!  He's been so fun lately, and definitely showing off his two-ness. 😉 He's got a LOT to say.  He loves his big brother and wants to do anything and everything that he does.  He loves his family and talks about them all day long. He loves Mickey Mouse and can't wait for his next trip to the castle.  He loves to play outside! We'll be living in the backyard this summer.  He loves to EAT! This has been his biggest area of growth from this time last year. At his first birthday party, he was just able to eat single-ingredient foods due to his allergies - we just didn't know what was safe for him. Yesterday he was able to have a cupcake..with frosting!  Such a win!  We love him and his silly little personality. We can't wait to celebrate him today!
