Sugar Cookie Weekend

9 more school "wake-ups" until Christmas break, and the countdown is officially on! I am beyond ready to have a break at home with all of my people.

This weekend was filled was lots of Christmas things and Christmas prep!

On Saturday, we celebrated my birthday. Dustin worked (womp womp), but we made the most of it.

Sugar Cookie weekend. 😊

It's called "Sugar Cookie weekend" because this project literally takes an entire weekend. Haha. I made the dough on Saturday night so it could get really cold overnight in the fridge, and on Sunday we cut, baked and frosted the cookies.

About 9 years ago, a very sweet mama of a student in my classroom shared her sugar cookie recipe with me. It's a sour cream cookie recipe flavored with almond, and they are absolutely delicious. The recipe she shared with me makes quite a few cookies. It doesn't take long to roll and cut them out, but the frosting can be a bit time consuming.

& we made Christmas trees.

After the frosting set, I placed the sugar cookies on a single layer in the freezer to freeze them. I separate each layer of cookies with wax paper, and when it's time to make cookie trays I pull out what I need. They keep really well this way!

Sammy LOVES sugar cookies and was more than excited to sample a few. 😉

Friday Favorites [7-3-2026]

It's Friday, and it's the 4th of July Eve! Sounds pretty good to me. 😉 I'm linking up with Andrea and Erika to share some favorites from the week. I'm dipping my toe back into blog world because, well, I am missing documenting my kids' childhoods. This summer, I've got a seven (7?!) year old and a new 3 year old. Someone the other day was talking about what a difference a year makes from summer to summer and it is so true. For example, this year Jack and Sammy love to go play together. Last year, both boys required constant supervision. Last year Jack hated going to the pool, and this year he is a little fish! Friday Favorites [6-14-2024]

I hate to be the one to point it out...but how in the world is June almost halfway over?! I would like to hit the "slow down" button on summer, please. 😉 Like usual, I'm linking up with Andrea and Erika to share some favorites from our week. Here we go! You'll notice that many of my "favorites" are food related this week. One of the reasons I love summer is that the cooking is easy, and I can take some time making things I typically wouldn't have time for. Wednesday evening we grilled pork chops and I was hunting for a side dish. I found the ingredients for taco dip and we gobbled it right up. Taco dip is basically a salad, yes? Jack (and big brother!) have been loving water play this summer. It has been extra warm this week, so it's been a great way to beat the heat. We had burgers this week using my very favorite recipe . Friday Favorites [7-10-2026]

It's Friday! I'm linking up with Andrea and Erika to share some favorites from the week. Here we go! Easy favorite was our Fourth of July! We had a festive day - we went to our parade in the morning and hosted a party in the evening. Look at these cute boys! Big fan of fireworks and sparklers over here. Sammy's favorite from the week was the visiting frogs and axolotls to our local library. He has big dreams of owning an axolotl - he's done extensive research 😉 - but we've come to the conclusion that the age of 14 seems reasonable to own an axolotl. Haha. He was very excited to see them up close and in person! Our slow mornings of a cold brew + the boys playing in the basement are my FAVORITE for sure! I love these days. Roo's favorite was easily sitting on my lap while I read outside.
