Sugar Cookie Weekend

9 more school "wake-ups" until Christmas break, and the countdown is officially on! I am beyond ready to have a break at home with all of my people.

Sugar Cookie weekend. 😊

It's called "Sugar Cookie weekend" because this project literally takes an entire weekend. Haha. I made the dough on Saturday night so it could get really cold overnight in the fridge, and on Sunday we cut, baked and frosted the cookies.

About 9 years ago, a very sweet mama of a student in my classroom shared her sugar cookie recipe with me. It's a sour cream cookie recipe flavored with almond, and they are absolutely delicious. The recipe she shared with me makes quite a few cookies. It doesn't take long to roll and cut them out, but the frosting can be a bit time consuming.

& we made Christmas trees.

After the frosting set, I placed the sugar cookies on a single layer in the freezer to freeze them. I separate each layer of cookies with wax paper, and when it's time to make cookie trays I pull out what I need. They keep really well this way!

Sammy LOVES sugar cookies and was more than excited to sample a few. 😉

Friday Favorites [7-3-2026]

It's Friday, and it's the 4th of July Eve! Sounds pretty good to me. 😉 I'm linking up with Andrea and Erika to share some favorites from the week. I'm dipping my toe back into blog world because, well, I am missing documenting my kids' childhoods. It brings me such joy to go back and read through memories from years before documented in old posts, so I'm determined to hang out here a bit more consistently to share life. This summer, I've got a seven (7?!) year old and a new 3 year old. Someone the other day was talking about what a difference a year makes from summer to summer and it is so true. For example, this year Jack and Sammy love to go play together. Last year, both boys required constant supervision. Last year Jack hated going to the pool, and this year he is a little fish! Sammy is SEVEN!

Sammy is SEVEN! Seven years ago we were at the hospital, excited and nervous to meet our Samuel John. Sammy was always a happy baby and toddler, and that's continued into childhood. He is so affable, friendly, and confident! He loves his family, he loves to play and he loves to be active. Games are his favorite, and he loves to "snuggle." Since returning back to school, he's developed a huge love of reading! As a first grade teacher this WARMS my heart. He loves most books, but right now he favors graphic novels. He is the best big brother. Without us asking, he is so willing to help his brother. Just yesterday, Jack sneezed and Sammy ran to get him a wipe and then proceeded to wipe Jack's nose for him. If someone gets hurt he often hurries to see what's wrong and if he can help. He's a lot like Dustin in that he loves to have fun and be social. Friday Favorites [10-4-2024]

Happy, HAPPY Friday! I hate to even say it outloud, but Jack slept through the night two nights in a row this week. He's been getting so many teeth - all at the same time for about three weeks. This led to lots of broken nights of sleep for our boy. It is AMAZING how much better I feel getting a full night of sleep. Haha. Needless to say, I'm feeling extra perky this Friday. I'm linking up with Andrea and Erika to share a few favorites from my week. 😊 Sammy's flag football team is the Chiefs, and so obviously his favorite dog supporter needed to get a matching outfit. I stopped by with the boys, and Jack was genuinely surprised to see so many people who looked like his daddy.
