What's Up Wednesday 9-27-2023

Happy Wednesday! Guys...where in the world did September go? I think I blinked and it's over! Today I'm so excited to be linking up with Sheaffer and Shay and sharing a little bit of what's going on right now.

What I'm Eating...

This time of year is tricky for me. I very much want to enjoy cozier meals, but it seems very odd to enjoy a bowl of chili when it's above 80 degrees outside. Maybe next week it will cool down?!

Sunday: We went to Fall Fest at our church and ate walking tacos

Monday: We had Italian chicken sausages and roasted vegetables with a side of Trader Joe's pumpkin ravioli. Yes, please!

Tuesday: We grilled burgers and had salad on the side.

Wednesday: I plan to pull a lasagna out of the freezer that I made a few weeks ago, which we'll probably enjoy with a salad.

What I'm reminiscing about...

This week in 2020, my husband Dustin left for the police academy. He was there Monday-Friday for TWELVE LONG weeks, and my Amazon Photo memories always remind me of that time in our lives. We are so glad to have that behind us! This photo was taken the morning Dustin departed.

What I'm loving...

ALL the baby smiles! Jack is cooing, babbling, and giggling. I could literally eat him for dinner. πŸ˜‰

What I've been up to...

We are back to the fall grind at our house! I'm back to work, Sammy is playing youth soccer and enjoying a football camp, and it feels good to be in a routine. Look how cute this picture of Sammy is! He scored 4 goals at his soccer game this past weekend and couldn't be more proud.

What I'm dreading...

We've already been blessed with our "back to school illnesses," unfortunately. Sammy got croup after 4 days of preschool, and I got my annual back to school cold. I'm certain more illnesses will follow, and so I have Sammy and I on a strict supplement routine. It makes me feel like I'm doing all within my power to help combat the germs! Have you tried this Propolis Throat Spray? Sammy and I each do three squirts, two times a day. Seeing we've purchased it 6 times, I'd say we're big fans!

What I'm working on...

Right now, I'm working on just maintaining life. πŸ˜‰ I'm doing my best to meal plan, exercise, continue breastfeeding/pumping, and be my best wife/mama/teacher self.

What I'm excited for...

I am BEYOND excited for the holidays this year! Sammy will be 5, and Jack will be 6 months old. Sammy absolutely knows what Christmas is all about, and can remember Christmases from years before. I have a feeling Jack is going to love looking at the lights and crinkling the wrapping paper. I'm anticipating lots of joy from our house! Here's a flashback photo of Sammy from last year. I can't wait to have two boys by the Christmas tree this year!

What I'm watching...

I have been watching two movies on repeat: "When Harry Met Sally" and "It's Complicated." Why do we not make good rom coms like this anymore?! These are two of my "comfort movies" that I can listen to in the background and listen to mindlessly.

What I'm reading...

I did a deep dive into autobiographies this month, haha! I read "Counting the Cost" by Jill Duggar and "Live Learn Love Well: Lessons from a Life of Progress Not Perfection" by Emma Lovewell this month. The Jill Duggar book was a tell-all, and gave lots of interesting tidbits from her life growing up in the Duggar family. There is deception, intense feelings, and lots of things that I didn't know occurred behind the camera. Emma Lovewell's book was motivating and shared stories of her life growing up. As an Enneagram 1 I am notoriously hard on myself, and my takeaway from this book was to give myself grace and look for progress. I'd love a cozy, fall book to read next month. Let me know if you have any suggestions!

What I'm listening to...

I am currently listening to a Michael Giacchino playlist on Spotify. Michael Giacchino is the artist behind a lot of Disney/Pixar soundtracks. Think music from "Up," "Ratatouille" and "Inside Out." It's super happy, calm music - perfect for listening to in my classroom.

What I'm wearing...

It's Homecoming week in my town so we have themed dress-up days at school this week! Today is "Favorite Team" day, so I've got on a St. Ambrose shirt and a pair of jeans. Easy!

What I'm looking forward to...

I'm really looking forward to the month of October and the fun it will bring! Sammy is beyond excited for his birthday and trick-or-treating this year. He hasn't settled on what he'd like to dress-up as for Halloween so we haven't purchased a costume yet for either boy. Hopefully he can land on an idea soon! This photo was from last year. We grew (yes, grew) all of these pumpkins in our garden. We didn't grow any pumpkins this year since they really take over your garden, so we'll grab some at the pumpkin patch. That will be another fun activity October will bring! 😊

That's all for this month - see you in OCTOBER! XX

  1. Those pumpkins you grew in your garden last year are amazing! I planted pumpkin seeds one year in our garden but nothing came of it. It has been a while so maybe I´ll try again next year. I am happy with a full tomato harvest but something fun like pumpkins would be great to have in the garden. Good luck getting Halloween costumes this year- your boys are at such great ages. The fall and Christmas season will be amazing for you guys, I´m sure!

    1. It was such a fun harvest! Seeing the picture of it makes me want to plant pumpkins again - even if they take up so much room!

The Brisel family is OFF!

I'm so excited to share that our family is celebrating the holiday season at our very favorite place...Disney World! This trip has been a long time coming. We have been saving and planning for over a year, and yesterday we [yes we...Santa doesn't get credit for this one πŸ˜‰] surprised our boys with a trip to Disney World for their Christmas gift. Disney is truly Dustin and my happy place, so we couldn't be more excited to bring the boys!  While we're gone I plan to blog about our trip, so I'm hoping to share an update tomorrow evening. For some who may not know, I am working my way through the certification process of becoming a Smart Moms Travel Agent, which is a travel company that specializes in trips to Disney World. I'm hopeful that it might turn into a fun hobby that lets me share a little bit of my Disney knowledge with other families. 😊 I thought blogging our trip would be a fun resource to share with future clients! For a little recap of today... We wer...

Disney World: Day 5 Recap

Rest days are a necessity for any Disney vacation, no matter the length of your trip. πŸ˜‰ We have been pushing it and hoofing it all over Disney World, so we were overdue! Our plans today included a character breakfast with Minnie and her friends, spending time at the pool, and a character dinner at 1900 Park Fare.  Both boys slept in until 7:00 which was amazing! We got dressed and ready and began our way towards Cape May Cafe located at The Beach Club Resort. We took the Skyliner from our resort to the International Gateway at Epcot. From there, we had about a 5 minute walk to our restaurant. Super easy!  This character meal is one of the lesser known options for character dining. We've done character dining at Topolino's Terrace (amazing!), Tusker House and Chef Mickey's, so we were excited to try something different. Minnie, Daisy, Donald and Goofy are all dressed in their beach attire, and make their way around the restaurant several times. You're also able to do a ...

Jackson Nicholas is TWO!

Jackson Nicholas is officially TWO years old today!  He's been so fun lately, and definitely showing off his two-ness. πŸ˜‰ He's got a LOT to say.  He loves his big brother and wants to do anything and everything that he does.  He loves his family and talks about them all day long. He loves Mickey Mouse and can't wait for his next trip to the castle.  He loves to play outside! We'll be living in the backyard this summer.  He loves to EAT! This has been his biggest area of growth from this time last year. At his first birthday party, he was just able to eat single-ingredient foods due to his allergies - we just didn't know what was safe for him. Yesterday he was able to have a cupcake..with frosting!  Such a win!  We love him and his silly little personality. We can't wait to celebrate him today!
