Friday Favorites 8-18-2023

Happy Friday, friends! It's been a LOVELY week weather-wise in Iowa. Temperatures have been in the 70s, the mornings have been cooler, and I'm itching to light a pumpkin spice candle. Haha! I'm linking up with Andrea and Erika to share some Friday Favorites.

This week, Sammy and I baked up some yummy Butterscotch Snickerdoodle bars. They're flavored with maple extract, have a layer of cinnamon sugar, and dotted with butterscotch chips. We were BIG fans at my house! Find the recipe here.

My FAVORITE funny from the week was sourced by Sammy. We spent lots of time outdoors which meant that his face was slathered in sunscreen often throughout the week. He is pretty sensitive to sunscreen and sometimes gets a small pimple when we have to apply it frequently. The poor guy got one on his nose this week last week but instead of calling it a pimple, he mistakenly called it a "nipple." Haha! Every time we saw a family member he made sure to tell them about the "nipple" on his nose.

My not-so-favorite from the week was a battle against mastitis. Ouch! I woke up on Tuesday and felt super achy and had a nasty headache. I progressively felt worse throughout the day, so I went to the doctor and was prescribed antibiotics. GOD BLESS antibiotics! I woke up on Wednesday feeling so much better. Unfortunately on Tuesday evening Sammy had a RPI (Random Puke Incident) which resulted in about 57394 loads of laundry. 10/10 don't recommend cleaning up vomit and recovering from mastitis simultaneously, but thankfully that's behind us! I ordered this sunflower lecithin from Amazon that's supposed to help prevent clogged ducts. Here's hoping it works!

Have you heard of Little Sleepies pajamas?! They are the softest bamboo pajamas and they offer lots of matching prints for siblings in extended sizes. This week they launched a Halloween collection and I purchased a matching set for the boys. These aren't my boys in the photo, but this is the print I ordered for them. Sammy is always requesting to match his brother in pajamas, and I feel like I have a very brief window in which matching with his brother will be fun. Obviously I have to take advantage. :)

We're trying to enjoy fresh produce with our meals as often as possible. Iowans know that there is nothing quite like sweet corn and tomatoes late July and into August. Look at these tomatoes! One of my favorite meals is a piece of toasted bread, mayonnaise and tomato topped with salt and pepper. We enjoyed these on homemade bread for BLTs. SO GOOD!

We're off to enjoy the weekend. Dustin works this weekend, so it will just be the boys and I at home. I'm hoping to inventory the boys' closets to see what new clothes they'll need as we welcome in September in a few weeks. Enjoy your weekend!

Friday Favorites [10-4-2024]

Happy, HAPPY Friday!  I hate to even say it outloud, but Jack slept through the night two nights in a row this week. He's been getting so many teeth - all at the same time for about three weeks. This led to lots of broken nights of sleep for our boy. It is AMAZING how much better I feel getting a full night of sleep. Haha.  Needless to say, I'm feeling extra perky this Friday.  I'm linking up with Andrea  and  Erika  to share a few favorites from my week. 😊 Sammy's flag football team is the Chiefs, and so obviously his favorite dog supporter needed to get a matching outfit. Look at Sammy's red cheeks! We're ready for fall weather to arrive in full force over here. Haha.  This week was National Night Out in our town, and Dustin helped work it. I stopped by with the boys, and Jack was genuinely surprised to see so many people who looked like his daddy. He got so excited when he saw the first police car, but was disappointed his daddy wasn't inside. 😉 D...

The Brisel family is OFF!

I'm so excited to share that our family is celebrating the holiday season at our very favorite place...Disney World! This trip has been a long time coming. We have been saving and planning for over a year, and yesterday we [yes we...Santa doesn't get credit for this one 😉] surprised our boys with a trip to Disney World for their Christmas gift. Disney is truly Dustin and my happy place, so we couldn't be more excited to bring the boys!  While we're gone I plan to blog about our trip, so I'm hoping to share an update tomorrow evening. For some who may not know, I am working my way through the certification process of becoming a Smart Moms Travel Agent, which is a travel company that specializes in trips to Disney World. I'm hopeful that it might turn into a fun hobby that lets me share a little bit of my Disney knowledge with other families. 😊 I thought blogging our trip would be a fun resource to share with future clients! For a little recap of today... We wer...

Disney World: Day 5 Recap

Rest days are a necessity for any Disney vacation, no matter the length of your trip. 😉 We have been pushing it and hoofing it all over Disney World, so we were overdue! Our plans today included a character breakfast with Minnie and her friends, spending time at the pool, and a character dinner at 1900 Park Fare.  Both boys slept in until 7:00 which was amazing! We got dressed and ready and began our way towards Cape May Cafe located at The Beach Club Resort. We took the Skyliner from our resort to the International Gateway at Epcot. From there, we had about a 5 minute walk to our restaurant. Super easy!  This character meal is one of the lesser known options for character dining. We've done character dining at Topolino's Terrace (amazing!), Tusker House and Chef Mickey's, so we were excited to try something different. Minnie, Daisy, Donald and Goofy are all dressed in their beach attire, and make their way around the restaurant several times. You're also able to do a ...
