Today I am sharing six things about our boy, Sammy John. He's been at such a fun age lately and I wanted to make sure that I write these memories down so I won't forget them. :)
His love of food
We cannot keep this boy's belly full! He wakes up and says "my belly is down it needs food." Some of his favorite things to eat are dry cereal, fresh strawberries (we buy at least 3 packages a week), chicken nuggets, "sauce" pizza, and mini pancakes - which he calls baby pancakes. He has a sweet tooth like his mama, and after dinner he'll say "I need a special treat." Who am I to deny him?! Dustin and I joke all the time about our grocery store bill as he gets older. :)
His interest in Baby Brother
Sammy is so incredibly interested in what's going on in mama's belly these days. He has been with to several doctor appointments and ultrasounds and is full of questions about what is going on. As items for the baby have been arriving at the house (diapers, pacifiers, etc.), he asks what they're for, and if he ever used them. He can't quite comprehend that he wore diapers and used pacifiers before. :) He is so gentle with babies that I can't wait to see how he is with his little brother.
His Affability
I often joke and say that Sammy is going to be a politician because he is so social and affable. Whenever we check out from grocery stores he tells the clerks to "have a great day!" At mass, when it is time to give the Sign of Peace, he goes up and down the entire aisle shaking hands with others. He is really social and friendly, and I really love that about him.
His Favorite Show
At the moment, Sammy really loves to watch the first 15 minutes of "Top Gun: Maverick." When the song "Highway to the Danger Zone" comes on he pretends to direct air traffic just like in the movie. Then he takes his toy jet and flies it through the air. It is SO FUNNY to watch. I think a career in something high action would suit him just fine, since he has so much energy - just like his daddy. :)
His "Question Asking"
Our newest bedtime routine is for him to listen to three books, do bedtime prayers, and then I lay with him for a bit while he "asks questions." We talk for about ten or so minutes and he asks me any and all of the questions under the sun. Sammy is a really deep thinker - he has an excellent memory - and you can tell that he is really processing and thinking about things. He likes to talk through what will happen when baby brother is born, how dinosaurs became "stinkt" (extinct), and what our favorite parts of the day were. It's become a sweet part of his bedtime routine and I look forward to it each night.
Sometimes when I get sad thinking about how fast these four years have gone, I look ahead with great joy at all that's to come. There are special things about each stage in parenting, and while I miss his newborn snuggles - it is just as much fun to assemble a puzzle with him. I can't wait to see him grow up.
