Savoring the Seasons: Summer

Happy Wednesday! Today I'm sharing just a few ways I'm trying my best to savor the season of SUMMER. All too soon, I'm going to be packing Sammy's backpack for another year of school, so I'm trying my very best to really enjoy these fleeting summer days. Here's a little bit of what I do to help me savor summer!

1. Slow Mornings

I try really hard for us to not leave the house before 10:00AM in the summertime. Haha. During the school year our mornings are busy, so I love mornings where we can linger in our pajamas and let the boys enjoy their breakfast and Curious George on the couch. Which brings me to...

2. Early Mornings

I am an early bird so I really enjoy my quiet time in the morning while the others are asleep. Lately I try to get up by 5:20 to pray, journal, and do travel work, that way I have the rest of the morning ahead of me and my cup is full!

3. Easy Dinners

Why do dinners seem so much easier in the summer? Likely we're grilling up chicken, slicing a tomato and it is so much less stressful than meals during the school year. If a dinner takes longer than 20 minutes to put it together, I don't want it. 😉

4. Fun Beverages

Whether it's an iced coffee with a seasonal creamer or a Zero Sugar Creamy Coconut Dr. Pepper, give it to me. I love a seasonal beverage!

5. Late Bedtimes

I love not being stressed about an early bedtime during the summer months. During the school year, I get so worried about the boys getting. adequate sleep, so it feels very luxurious to let them stay up later, knowing they can sleep in or nap the following day.

6. Outside Time

We love to be outside as much as possible in the summer. We added on a deck to our outdoor living space and have been LOVING IT! It's fun to enjoy meals outside or read while the boys play.

7. No Makeup

I really don't love makeup so I love being able to go days in a row without wearing any. It brings me joy!

8. Flowers and Garden

I love watering the garden or my hydrangeas, especially at nighttime. It's so relaxing!

9. Pool Time

Is there anything more luxurious about ignoring the laundry that needs to be folded any heading to the pool? I think not.

10. Fires and S'Mores

We have YET to make this happen yet this year, but it is happening in the next week! We love to make a fire and roast s'mores. My favorite!

There is so much to love about summer!

Friday Favorites [7-3-2026]

It's Friday, and it's the 4th of July Eve! Sounds pretty good to me. 😉 I'm linking up with  Andrea  and  Erika  to share some favorites from the week.  I'm dipping my toe back into blog world because, well, I am missing documenting my kids' childhoods. It brings me such joy to go back and read through memories from years before documented in old posts, so I'm determined to hang out here a bit more consistently to share life.  This summer, I've got a seven (7?!) year old and a new 3 year old. Someone the other day was talking about what a difference a year makes from summer to summer and it is so true. For example, this year Jack and Sammy love to go play together. Last year, both boys required constant supervision. Last year Jack hated going to the pool, and this year he is a little fish! This is a BIG favorite for me! Last weekend Sammy participated in a "Run Hit Pitch" competition and won first place for hitting in his age division. He was so ...

Sammy is SEVEN!

Sammy is SEVEN! Seven years ago we were at the hospital, excited and nervous to meet our Samuel John.  Sammy was always a happy baby and toddler, and that's continued into childhood. He is so affable, friendly, and confident! He loves his family, he loves to play and he loves to be active. Games are his favorite, and he loves to "snuggle."  Since returning back to school, he's developed a huge love of reading! As a first grade teacher this WARMS my heart. He loves most books, but right now he favors graphic novels. He is the best big brother. Without us asking, he is so willing to help his brother. Just yesterday, Jack sneezed and Sammy ran to get him a wipe and then proceeded to wipe Jack's nose for him. If someone gets hurt he often hurries to see what's wrong and if he can help. He's a lot like Dustin in that he loves to have fun and be social. He's a lot like me in that he loves to make lists and know the when/how things are happening. He loves a...

Friday Favorites [10-4-2024]

Happy, HAPPY Friday!  I hate to even say it outloud, but Jack slept through the night two nights in a row this week. He's been getting so many teeth - all at the same time for about three weeks. This led to lots of broken nights of sleep for our boy. It is AMAZING how much better I feel getting a full night of sleep. Haha.  Needless to say, I'm feeling extra perky this Friday.  I'm linking up with Andrea  and  Erika  to share a few favorites from my week. 😊 Sammy's flag football team is the Chiefs, and so obviously his favorite dog supporter needed to get a matching outfit. Look at Sammy's red cheeks! We're ready for fall weather to arrive in full force over here. Haha.  This week was National Night Out in our town, and Dustin helped work it. I stopped by with the boys, and Jack was genuinely surprised to see so many people who looked like his daddy. He got so excited when he saw the first police car, but was disappointed his daddy wasn't inside. 😉 D...
