Morning Necessities.

I've shared before that I am an early bird, but I definitely feel like a much happier early bird in the summer months. I love when I can take my time in the morning and get a few things done to feel productive ahead of the day starting. Today I thought I'd share a few rituals that I do every morning that make my day start oh so happy.

1. Earlier alarms.

During the summer months, I've been getting up at around 5:20AM. The rest of my house starts stirring around 6:30 (on days that Dustin works) and around 7:30 (on days Dustin is off). This gives me at least an hour to have to myself and that time has become sacred.

2. Ice roller and iced coffee.

Every morning I love to use an ice roller on my face when I first wake up. Mine is nothing fancy - I got it on Amazon but it feels so heavenly on your face in the morning. I also love iced coffee during the summer months. A glass of coffee + a little s'mores Chobani creamer makes me happy in the morning.

3. Prayer Journal.

I have tried so many prayer journals/devotionals over the years and recently got this one. I've realized that I do a better job of praying intentionally when I write things down and this one has lots of room for writing. I like to take just a few minutes to pray and talk to God before the day really gets going.

4. Travel Work.

Morning is when I get any travel work done that needs to be done. Quotes, processing payments, emailing clients, etc. typically all happens while the rest of the house is asleep.

5. Dishwasher and Workout

If I'm really efficient I get that darn dishwasher emptied and get my workout in before the kids wake up. It is amazing how different each summer is: last year there would have been no way that I could have worked out while Jack was awake. This summer, he is so happy to play with his brother while I do whatever I want to do fitness wise. AMAZING!

These five things have been making my morning time slow and sweet this summer. So thankful I have 6 more weeks to really enjoy them!

Sammy is SEVEN!

Sammy is SEVEN! Seven years ago we were at the hospital, excited and nervous to meet our Samuel John.  Sammy was always a happy baby and toddler, and that's continued into childhood. He is so affable, friendly, and confident! He loves his family, he loves to play and he loves to be active. Games are his favorite, and he loves to "snuggle."  Since returning back to school, he's developed a huge love of reading! As a first grade teacher this WARMS my heart. He loves most books, but right now he favors graphic novels. He is the best big brother. Without us asking, he is so willing to help his brother. Just yesterday, Jack sneezed and Sammy ran to get him a wipe and then proceeded to wipe Jack's nose for him. If someone gets hurt he often hurries to see what's wrong and if he can help. He's a lot like Dustin in that he loves to have fun and be social. He's a lot like me in that he loves to make lists and know the when/how things are happening. He loves a...

Friday Favorites [10-4-2024]

Happy, HAPPY Friday!  I hate to even say it outloud, but Jack slept through the night two nights in a row this week. He's been getting so many teeth - all at the same time for about three weeks. This led to lots of broken nights of sleep for our boy. It is AMAZING how much better I feel getting a full night of sleep. Haha.  Needless to say, I'm feeling extra perky this Friday.  I'm linking up with Andrea  and  Erika  to share a few favorites from my week. 😊 Sammy's flag football team is the Chiefs, and so obviously his favorite dog supporter needed to get a matching outfit. Look at Sammy's red cheeks! We're ready for fall weather to arrive in full force over here. Haha.  This week was National Night Out in our town, and Dustin helped work it. I stopped by with the boys, and Jack was genuinely surprised to see so many people who looked like his daddy. He got so excited when he saw the first police car, but was disappointed his daddy wasn't inside. 😉 D...

What's Up Wednesday [September 2024]

And just like that...it's the last week of the month! Time for What's Up Wednesday with  Sheaffer  and  Shay .  What We're Eating this Week... Fall weather is officially upon us, so I'm craving warm, comforting meals. This week's menu is... Sunday - Meatloaf and green beans Monday - Chicken Pot Pie with a green salad Tuesday - "Smash Burger" tacos  Wednesday - BBQ Chicken bowls Thursday - Spaghetti  Friday - we're grilling up the Trader Joe's Unexpected Cheddar Chicken sausages...so good!  My boys have been eating a lot of pumpkin muffins this week. I had to make a second batch this evening because Sammy ate 5 (5!) in one day.  We're basically eating pumpkin in whatever we can these days, which is why I made these pumpkin sourdough discard bagels. A warm bagel + pumpkin cream cheese from Trader Joe's = a little slice of heaven. 😊 What I'm reminiscing about... As always...this time last year. Look how small and squishy Baby Jack was!  T...
