We woke up on January 1st ready for our last full day at Disney World!
The boys were a little slow moving this morning (who came blame them after 4 park days 😅) but we had a Lightning Lane booked at 8:05AM for Tiana's Bayou Adventure (formerly known as Splash Mountain). I sent Sammy and Dustin ahead to Magic Kingdom so Jack could have a slower start, and we met up with them in Fantasyland right around 9:30. We knew today was going to be a long park day. We were worried to leave for a rest in case the park reached capacity, and we wanted to make sure we stayed for fireworks!
We packed our morning with lots of rides and tried the new beignets. Sammy loved them! I also caught my favorite picture of the trip this morning.
We had a character meal scheduled with Pooh, Tiger, Piglet and Eeyore that we were a bit early for. I got us checked in, and while we were waiting, we took the boys over to the "hub." The hub is a fenced in, grassy area perfect for hanging out in. The boys danced and got some wiggles out (AKA wrestle 😉) before we went inside to eat.
We got seated and right away were greeted by Pooh! Jack calls Pooh, "Pa" and was so excited to give him hugs!
Sammy got his autographs and we chatted with the chef about what foods Jack would be able to eat. At most buffets on Disney property, they have a special section of the food line for kids with typical "kid" cuisine. Sammy ate chicken nuggets, pizza and fruit for lunch, while Jack was able to have mashed potatoes, steamed broccoli and fresh fruit for his. Dustin took advantage of the cocktail shrimp and salmon, while I enjoyed the chicken fried steak that was on the buffet line. So good!
We met all the friends and finished our meal. At this point, we saw that there was a short wait at Big Thunder Mountain. I sent Sammy and Dustin ahead to Frontierland to ride, while I took Jack for a diaper change at the baby care center. Then I found a quiet spot in Tomorrowland where I could enjoy a Starbucks while Jack slept in his stroller. The boys hit Big Thunder Mountain, Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin, and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. We rider swapped Seven Dwarfs Mine Train after Jack woke up, then went for dole whips and to ride Pirates of the Caribbean. We rode more rides...
ate Mickey ice cream...
and ate some dinner before finding a spot to wait for fireworks.
Finally at 8:00, the firework show began. We love to watch the fireworks down towards the beginning of Main Street, that way we can make a quick(ish) exit to the bus stops. There's a part of the fireworks show when the song "You'll be in my heart" plays, and there is a montage of different Disney mom and dads are with their children. As sappy as this sounds, Dustin and I first watched this firework show in 2017 when we were hoping to grow our family. We watched the fireworks and remember seeing that very part and hoping to one day return with our own children. It was such a full circle moment to watch the same firework show with both of my boys next to me!
Fireworks concluded, and we waited in a *not so magical* bus line before heading back to our resort for one last sleep. This trip truly meant the world to my family. While trips with small children can be filled with meltdowns and extra luggage and worries, it was so special to just focus on the four of us for seven nights. We all had some tears as we pulled away from our resort the next morning. We returned to a snow covered town, but our hearts full from our week spent together. Disney, we'll be back!
