Trader Joe's Favorites

One of my very favorite stores in the world is Trader Joe's. For those that don't know, it's a grocery store/specialty food store. They have a great selection of produce, frozen items and snacks. We typically try to do a Trader Joe's run about once a month to stock up on our favorites. We were long overdue for a trip! Today I'm sharing some of my favorites that I always stock us up on.

#1 Cauliflower Egg Frittatas

Don't let the word "cauliflower" scare you! These egg frittatas are one of my very favorite breakfasts. They are in the frozen section, and one little frittata makes the perfect breakfast. You can't taste the cauliflower at all and they are so easy to microwave and enjoy. They are pretty low in calories, but high in protein. I'm known to buy 4+ boxes at a time!

#2 Canned Corn

This corn is the closest thing you can get to Iowa sweet corn in the dead of winter, so we always make sure to stock up on several cans. It's super crisp and tender. I know it's a random find but make sure to add it to your cart. Warning: all other canned corn will taste TERRIBLE after you try this!

#3 Roasted Red Pepper and Tomato Soup

This soup is probably one of Dustin's very favorite things to get from Trader Joe's. We first tried it a few years ago during Lent, thinking it would be a good meat-free dinner option. He enjoyed the soup so much we eat it for dinner year round. We like to top ours with parmesan cheese, and freshly cracked black pepper - with grilled cheese and veggies on the side. :)

#4 Sweet Italian Chicken Sausages

For whatever reason I feel like the grocery stores in Newton have a terrible selection of these pre-cooked chicken sausages, so I always tend to grab a few packages from Trader Joe's whenever we are there. They are so easy to grill, or slice up for a sheet pan supper. Sammy really loves them, too. This variety is my favorite. There is also an apple sausage variety that is delicious in the fall with sweet potatoes. We typically slice this flavor up and roast them in the oven alongside some vegetables. It's such an easy dinner!

This is just a short list of some of the staple items we always purchase. Here's a list of other items our family has tried and enjoyed:

Freezer Section

  • Mandarin Chicken
  • Jasmine Rice
  • Turkey Corn Dogs
  • Sweet Potato Gnocchi
  • Mini Pancakes
  • Chicken Cilantro Won-Tons

Fresh Foods

  • Raviolis - any flavor. They are all so good!
  • Seasonal salad mixes
  • Vanilla Bean Yogurt
  • Colby Jack Cheese sticks
  • 3 Layer Hummus
  • Buffalo Chicken Dip
  • Breads - any of them. We loved the strawberry muffins our last trip!

Snacks

  • Way More Chocolate Chip cookies (Sammy's favorite!)
  • Sesame Cashews
  • Sandwich Crackers
  • Sparkling Water (Blueberry Lemonade is delish)
  • Seasonal Teas

The Brisel family is OFF!

I'm so excited to share that our family is celebrating the holiday season at our very favorite place...Disney World! This trip has been a long time coming. We have been saving and planning for over a year, and yesterday we [yes we...Santa doesn't get credit for this one 😉] surprised our boys with a trip to Disney World for their Christmas gift. Disney is truly Dustin and my happy place, so we couldn't be more excited to bring the boys!  While we're gone I plan to blog about our trip, so I'm hoping to share an update tomorrow evening. For some who may not know, I am working my way through the certification process of becoming a Smart Moms Travel Agent, which is a travel company that specializes in trips to Disney World. I'm hopeful that it might turn into a fun hobby that lets me share a little bit of my Disney knowledge with other families. 😊 I thought blogging our trip would be a fun resource to share with future clients! For a little recap of today... We wer...

Disney World: Day 5 Recap

Rest days are a necessity for any Disney vacation, no matter the length of your trip. 😉 We have been pushing it and hoofing it all over Disney World, so we were overdue! Our plans today included a character breakfast with Minnie and her friends, spending time at the pool, and a character dinner at 1900 Park Fare.  Both boys slept in until 7:00 which was amazing! We got dressed and ready and began our way towards Cape May Cafe located at The Beach Club Resort. We took the Skyliner from our resort to the International Gateway at Epcot. From there, we had about a 5 minute walk to our restaurant. Super easy!  This character meal is one of the lesser known options for character dining. We've done character dining at Topolino's Terrace (amazing!), Tusker House and Chef Mickey's, so we were excited to try something different. Minnie, Daisy, Donald and Goofy are all dressed in their beach attire, and make their way around the restaurant several times. You're also able to do a ...

Jackson Nicholas is TWO!

Jackson Nicholas is officially TWO years old today!  He's been so fun lately, and definitely showing off his two-ness. 😉 He's got a LOT to say.  He loves his big brother and wants to do anything and everything that he does.  He loves his family and talks about them all day long. He loves Mickey Mouse and can't wait for his next trip to the castle.  He loves to play outside! We'll be living in the backyard this summer.  He loves to EAT! This has been his biggest area of growth from this time last year. At his first birthday party, he was just able to eat single-ingredient foods due to his allergies - we just didn't know what was safe for him. Yesterday he was able to have a cupcake..with frosting!  Such a win!  We love him and his silly little personality. We can't wait to celebrate him today!
