Friday Favorites 8-11-2023

It's been another full week of summer fun! I honestly can't believe how quickly the time is going. The saying "the days are long, but the years are short" is SO TRUE. Next week my co-workers will be heading back to work and it feels very strange knowing I won't be doing the same thing. As strange as it feels I am thrilled to still have some more time at home with my boys, and I am planning on fully soaking in these last 5 weeks of maternity leave. :)

Here are some "Friday Favorites" from our week:

#1 7 Year Anniversary

On Sunday, August 6th, Dustin and I celebrated 7 years of marriage. I don't know why, but 7 years felt like a very big milestone. If you add together the three years we were together in high school, the year we were engaged/dating, and the seven years we've been married, we've been together 11 years. We celebrated with a yummy (kid-free!) lunch and some shopping. We found a couple of fall decorations to add to our collection. Anyone else itching to get started decorating for the season?

#2 Trader Joe's Favorites

Last week we visited Trader Joe's and so our dinner menu has been extra yummy this week. We've enjoyed lots of meals using the items we purchased. Yummy food is always a favorite!

#3 Family Walks

We've taken a few of what Sammy calls "Family Walks" when Dustin wakes up in the afternoon. Sammy has been riding his scooter a lot this summer but typically complains about halfway through the walk and asks to hitch a ride in the stroller. This week he had ZERO complaining and rode his scooter like a menace! With him cruising on his scooter and baby Jack snoozing in the stroller, Dustin and I are able to chat - always a favorite of mine. :)

#4 Regular Work-Outs

I was so anxious to get back into the routine of working out regularly after I was cleared by my doctor and it has felt SO GOOD. I typically do a 20-30 minute class on the Peloton, followed by a 10 minute postpartum abdominal workout. I've really enjoyed the postpartum workouts as they are designed to "knit your abdomen" back together after baby by targeting deep core muscles. I really wish I had done this series postpartum with Sammy! My "abs" totally hurt afterwards so it must be making a difference. Haha!

#5 Sammy's Name Writing

Sammy and I try to work on some "school" stuff (AKA - fine motor practice) for a few minutes each day during one of Jack's naps. I am so proud of how his name writing has improved over the summer! You can see all of the letters - he just gets a little carried away making the letter "M"s. He typically has very little interest in writing or cutting, but we've been chipping away at it. I can't wait to see him improve over the school year!

#6 Afternoon Pool Time

After Sammy has his rest time in the afternoon we step outside to enjoy some sunshine. Well, Sammy enjoys some sunshine and baby Jack and I enjoy the fresh air under the shade. :) Sammy has gotten lots of use out of his pool this summer, and has quite the tan line to prove it!

Have the best weekend!

The Brisel family is OFF!

I'm so excited to share that our family is celebrating the holiday season at our very favorite place...Disney World! This trip has been a long time coming. We have been saving and planning for over a year, and yesterday we [yes we...Santa doesn't get credit for this one 😉] surprised our boys with a trip to Disney World for their Christmas gift. Disney is truly Dustin and my happy place, so we couldn't be more excited to bring the boys!  While we're gone I plan to blog about our trip, so I'm hoping to share an update tomorrow evening. For some who may not know, I am working my way through the certification process of becoming a Smart Moms Travel Agent, which is a travel company that specializes in trips to Disney World. I'm hopeful that it might turn into a fun hobby that lets me share a little bit of my Disney knowledge with other families. 😊 I thought blogging our trip would be a fun resource to share with future clients! For a little recap of today... We wer...

Disney World: Day 5 Recap

Rest days are a necessity for any Disney vacation, no matter the length of your trip. 😉 We have been pushing it and hoofing it all over Disney World, so we were overdue! Our plans today included a character breakfast with Minnie and her friends, spending time at the pool, and a character dinner at 1900 Park Fare.  Both boys slept in until 7:00 which was amazing! We got dressed and ready and began our way towards Cape May Cafe located at The Beach Club Resort. We took the Skyliner from our resort to the International Gateway at Epcot. From there, we had about a 5 minute walk to our restaurant. Super easy!  This character meal is one of the lesser known options for character dining. We've done character dining at Topolino's Terrace (amazing!), Tusker House and Chef Mickey's, so we were excited to try something different. Minnie, Daisy, Donald and Goofy are all dressed in their beach attire, and make their way around the restaurant several times. You're also able to do a ...

Jackson Nicholas is TWO!

Jackson Nicholas is officially TWO years old today!  He's been so fun lately, and definitely showing off his two-ness. 😉 He's got a LOT to say.  He loves his big brother and wants to do anything and everything that he does.  He loves his family and talks about them all day long. He loves Mickey Mouse and can't wait for his next trip to the castle.  He loves to play outside! We'll be living in the backyard this summer.  He loves to EAT! This has been his biggest area of growth from this time last year. At his first birthday party, he was just able to eat single-ingredient foods due to his allergies - we just didn't know what was safe for him. Yesterday he was able to have a cupcake..with frosting!  Such a win!  We love him and his silly little personality. We can't wait to celebrate him today!
